Canva vs Figma: Which is better in 2026?

Our verdict

Updated Aug 12, 2026

These are not really competitors, and the most common expensive mistake is treating them as one. Figma is for designing software: components, variables, prototyping and developer handoff, used by people whose job title includes "designer". Canva is for producing marketing and internal collateral at volume, used by people whose job title does not. Buy Figma for a marketing coordinator and you get an unused seat and off-brand output; buy Canva for a product team and you get designs that cannot become code. The genuine decision is not which one, but whether you need both — and for most companies past about twenty people the answer is yes, at a combined cost that is still trivial against a single designer's time. If you must pick one: are you shipping an interface, or shipping content?
