“The first tracker engineers open voluntarily”

We have run Jira, Shortcut and Asana. Linear is the only one where updating a ticket costs nothing — cmd+K, two keystrokes, done. Cycle reports write our sprint review for us. The opinionated model is the feature: fewer knobs, more shipping.

Pros

Speed, keyboard-first design, cycles and triage that enforce hygiene automatically.

Cons

Opinionated means rigid: if your process is not close to theirs, you will fight it.

Problems it solves

Sprint planning went from a 90-minute meeting to 20 minutes.

“Triage is the killer feature nobody markets”

Bug intake used to be Slack chaos. Linear triage gives every stray report one queue with an owner, and the duplicate detection actually works. Velocity charts are honest — no way to game them — which changed our estimation culture.

Pros

Triage inbox, dedupe suggestions, SLAs on bug severity.

Cons

Reporting for non-engineering stakeholders is thin; execs want burn-up charts it will not draw.
