Free tier covered our first 10 people. Setup is a nonevent: invite, make teams, go. We switched from Asana boards that had become a graveyard; Linear cycles force a weekly heartbeat. The Slack integration posts exactly enough, never spam.
Pros
Free tier, cycles, sane notifications.
Cons
Mobile app is fine for triage but you cannot really work in it.

“The first tracker engineers open voluntarily”
Used daily for 1–2 years
We have run Jira, Shortcut and Asana. Linear is the only one where updating a ticket costs nothing — cmd+K, two keystrokes, done. Cycle reports write our sprint review for us. The opinionated model is the feature: fewer knobs, more shipping.
Pros
Speed, keyboard-first design, cycles and triage that enforce hygiene automatically.
Cons
Opinionated means rigid: if your process is not close to theirs, you will fight it.
Problems it solves
Sprint planning went from a 90-minute meeting to 20 minutes.

“Roadmap honesty improved exec trust”
Used weekly for 6–12 months
Initiatives with auto-rolled-up progress ended the era of optimistic status slides. When a project slips, the roadmap shows it the same day. Uncomfortable and extremely healthy. Board asks better questions now.
Pros
Live roadmap rollups, project health signals.
Cons
Needs a read-only exec license tier; paying full seat price for viewers stings.

“Product + engineering finally share one system”
Used daily for 6–12 months
Switched from Asana because engineering refused to live there. Linear projects and initiatives are readable enough for product briefs while the issue layer stays fast for devs. Roadmap view replaced a slide deck we rebuilt monthly.
Pros
Initiatives→projects→issues hierarchy, GitHub integration that never desyncs.
Cons
No native docs; specs still live in Notion with links.

“Sales engineer view: demos sell themselves”
Used weekly for 6–12 months
I sit between sales and product; I file field feedback into Linear daily. Intake via Slack shortcut plus auto-routing to the right team means my escalations stop dying in DMs. Watching an issue move through cycles gives customers real answers.
Pros
Slack intake, transparent statuses I can share externally.
Cons
Search across old issues could be smarter about synonyms.

“Triage is the killer feature nobody markets”
Used daily for 1–2 years
Bug intake used to be Slack chaos. Linear triage gives every stray report one queue with an owner, and the duplicate detection actually works. Velocity charts are honest — no way to game them — which changed our estimation culture.
Pros
Triage inbox, dedupe suggestions, SLAs on bug severity.
Cons
Reporting for non-engineering stakeholders is thin; execs want burn-up charts it will not draw.

“Adopted for an internal platform team in a bank”
Used daily for 1–2 years
Compliance made this hard and Linear made it possible: SAML, SCIM, audit logs on Business tier passed review. The tool is drastically faster than the incumbent. Non-engineering PMO colleagues still bounce off the terminology, so we keep a translation layer in Confluence.
Pros
Enterprise auth story, speed, reliability (zero downtime in a year).
Cons
PMO-style reporting (RAID logs, stage gates) has no home here.

“As a CTO, the ROI is attention”
Used daily for 2+ years
Tool friction compounds across 15 engineers. Linear repaid its cost in the first cycle purely in not-context-switching. API and webhooks are clean; we pipe cycle data into our own dashboards. Support is fast and technical.
Pros
Performance, API quality, changelog cadence — the product visibly improves monthly.
Cons
Per-seat price adds up; guests/clients cannot see roadmaps without a paid seat.

“Consultant take: right tool, narrow lane”
Used monthly for 1–2 years
I have now implemented Linear at four clients. When the org is software-first it lands instantly. When half the work is non-engineering (content, ops), people drift back to spreadsheets — it is not a general work-management tool and does not pretend to be.
Pros
Zero-training adoption for developers, superb defaults.
Cons
Non-engineering teams need a second tool; no time tracking for agency billing.
