Roadmap honesty improved exec trust

Used weekly for 6–12 months

Initiatives with auto-rolled-up progress ended the era of optimistic status slides. When a project slips, the roadmap shows it the same day. Uncomfortable and extremely healthy. Board asks better questions now.

Pros

Live roadmap rollups, project health signals.

Cons

Needs a read-only exec license tier; paying full seat price for viewers stings.

Product + engineering finally share one system

Used daily for 6–12 months

Switched from Asana because engineering refused to live there. Linear projects and initiatives are readable enough for product briefs while the issue layer stays fast for devs. Roadmap view replaced a slide deck we rebuilt monthly.

Pros

Initiatives→projects→issues hierarchy, GitHub integration that never desyncs.

Cons

No native docs; specs still live in Notion with links.

Adopted for an internal platform team in a bank

Used daily for 1–2 years

Compliance made this hard and Linear made it possible: SAML, SCIM, audit logs on Business tier passed review. The tool is drastically faster than the incumbent. Non-engineering PMO colleagues still bounce off the terminology, so we keep a translation layer in Confluence.

Pros

Enterprise auth story, speed, reliability (zero downtime in a year).

Cons

PMO-style reporting (RAID logs, stage gates) has no home here.
