The novelty wore off and the productivity did not. Codebase indexing means new features come out matching our conventions, and the review burden is lower than with tools that write generic code I then rewrite. It is the first AI tool I would genuinely miss.
Pros
Suggestions fit our codebase rather than a tutorial. Migration from VS Code was trivial.
Cons
Usage costs still need watching on heavy weeks.

“Tab completion is the thing you cannot give up”

The agent gets the attention but the multi-line tab prediction is what changed my day. It works out what I am doing and offers the next three edits, including in files I had not opened yet. I tried going back to plain VS Code for a week and lasted two days.
Pros
Tab prediction, whole-repo context, and it actually reuses our internal helpers instead of inventing new ones.
Cons
Usage charges on top of the subscription. One heavy refactoring week cost me an extra $40 I had not budgeted.
Problems it solves
Cut the time to add a standard CRUD endpoint from about an hour to fifteen minutes.

“Rolled it out to twelve engineers, would do it again”

Migration was genuinely a ten-minute job because it is VS Code underneath — no retraining, no lost extensions. Privacy mode enforcement at the team level was what got it past our security review. The juniors improved fastest, which surprised me.
Pros
Zero migration friction. Team admin and enforced privacy mode. Shared rules keep the output consistent with our conventions.
Cons
Cost per seat climbs once you add usage. Indexing our largest repo takes a while and occasionally goes stale.

“Good, but review discipline matters”
Used daily for 6–12 months
Agent mode will happily produce 300 lines across five files. If you accept that without reading it you are storing up trouble, and I watched a colleague do exactly that. Used in small increments with tests it is excellent. Used as a wish-granting machine it is not.
Pros
Multi-file edits with clear diffs. Runs the test suite and fixes what it broke.
Cons
Encourages large unreviewed changes if you let it. Frequent updates occasionally move things around.
