“Replaced a voice actor for our course library”

Used weekly for 1–2 years

We were paying per-hour for narration and re-recording every time a module changed. Cloned our instructor's voice with her consent and now updates take minutes. The audio is close enough that learners have not commented.

Pros

Quality is genuinely publishable. Updating a script no longer means booking a studio.

Cons

Characters run out fast on long courses — we moved up two tiers within a quarter.

Problems it solves

Course updates went from a scheduling problem to a five-minute task.

“Dubbing saved a client project”

Used monthly for 6–12 months

Client needed the same explainer in five languages on a two-week deadline. Re-recording was impossible. The dubbing kept the presenter's timbre across all five and the native speakers we checked with signed it off with minor pronunciation fixes.

Pros

Multilingual output that keeps the original voice character. Fast turnaround.

Cons

Technical terms and proper nouns needed manual correction in every language.

“Legal wanted a policy before we touched cloning”

The technology is excellent. The governance conversation is the real work — who may clone whose voice, what consent record we keep, how we prevent misuse. ElevenLabs provides verification tooling but the policy has to be yours.

Pros

Verification controls exist and work. Enterprise terms were acceptable to our counsel.

Cons

Cloning is a capability you must govern, not just switch on.
