Paid for itself in five months

Used daily for 1–2 years

I was on Creative Cloud at £60 a month. Final Cut cost £299 once, edits faster on my MacBook and has crashed twice in eighteen months. The maths took about five minutes and I should have done it years earlier.

Pros

Speed on Apple silicon is not subtle. No monthly charge. Extremely stable.

Cons

The magnetic timeline took me a month to stop fighting.

Problems it solves

Removed a recurring subscription and roughly halved my export times.

Fast, but wrong for our team

Used weekly for 6–12 months

Two editors on Macs loved it. Our third works on Windows, our freelancers use Premiere, and there is no good shared-project story. Speed did not compensate for a workflow that only half the team could join.

Pros

Genuinely the fastest editor we tested on Mac hardware.

Cons

Mac-only plus weak collaboration makes it hard for a mixed team.

Ninety-day trial is how it should be done

Used weekly for 1–2 years

Three months free is long enough to actually learn a professional editor and decide honestly. I used it for a real project, decided the magnetic timeline suited me, and bought it. No other vendor gives you that.

Pros

Trial length is genuinely generous. Organisation tools with keywords are excellent.

Cons

Plugin ecosystem is smaller than Premiere's.
