“Nobody had to leave IntelliJ, which was the point”

We evaluated Cursor and the honest blocker was twelve Java engineers with ten years of IntelliJ muscle memory. JetBrains AI gave us most of the benefit and none of the disruption. The refactoring suggestions are better than Copilot’s in Java because the IDE actually knows the types.
Pros
Zero migration. Refactors follow the call hierarchy properly. AI Pro came free with the All Products Pack we already had.
Cons
Credits vanish once people start using Junie. We ended up on Ultimate for half the team.
Problems it solves
Brought AI to a Java team without asking anyone to change editors.

“Good assistant, confusing bill”

The product is solid. The pricing is the part I resent — I burned a month of AI Pro credits in about five days of normal Junie use and then had to decide between topping up and upgrading. Completion is unlimited and free, which is the part I use most, so it worked out. But I should not have had to work that out myself.
Pros
Completion is unlimited and does not touch the quota. Deep project understanding.
Cons
Credit consumption is genuinely hard to predict. The gap between Pro and Ultimate is a threefold price jump.

“On-premises was the requirement and it met it”

Regulated environment, no code to third-party clouds. The enterprise deployment runs inside our estate and satisfied a security review that stopped two other tools. Slower to set up than a SaaS product, and worth it for us.
Pros
On-premises option is real and supported. Central policy control. Audit logging.
Cons
Deployment took our platform team most of a fortnight. Cost per seat is high once you add Ultimate quotas.
Problems it solves
AI assistance for developers who cannot send code outside our network.
