Client portals in an afternoon, not a quarter

Used weekly for 1–2 years

Clients wanted to see their project status without emailing us. Our data was already in Airtable. Softr had a branded, permission-controlled portal live the same day, and clients assume we built something custom.

Pros

Ridiculously fast. Permissions work properly. Looks professional with no design effort.

Cons

Paying for Softr and Airtable together adds up across several client portals.

Problems it solves

Removed a recurring stream of "what is the status of my project" emails.

Right tool once we stopped over-thinking it

Used weekly for 6–12 months

We spent two months evaluating application platforms for what turned out to be a directory with logins. Softr did it in a day. The lesson was to size the tool to the problem rather than to the ambition.

Pros

Great fit for internal tools and directories. Non-technical staff maintain it themselves.

Cons

Anything conditional gets awkward fast — we push that logic into Make.

Hit the Airtable ceiling, not the Softr one

Used weekly for 1–2 years

App was fine until our base passed the record limit and everything slowed down. That is Airtable's constraint rather than Softr's, but you inherit it, so plan the data layer before you build the interface.

Pros

Interface layer is excellent and stayed fast when we moved to Postgres.

Cons

You own the performance of whatever you build it on.
