The only writing tool nobody had to be told to use

Used daily for 2+ years

We have bought writing tools before and watched them go unopened. Grammarly is simply present in the places people already write, so adoption was immediate and permanent. Our customer emails read noticeably better than they did a year ago.

Pros

Zero training. The style guide keeps 40 people writing consistently. Tone detection catches the email I should not send.

Cons

The generative side is unremarkable — we use a separate assistant for drafting.

Problems it solves

Improved company-wide writing quality without running a single workshop.

Raised the floor across 60 people

Used daily for 2+ years

We did not need better writers, we needed fewer badly-written customer emails. Grammarly Business with a company style guide fixed that in a month, mostly because nobody has to remember to use it — it is just there in Outlook.

Pros

Ubiquity. Style guide enforcement. Tone detection has prevented several emails I would have regretted.

Cons

The generative side is unremarkable; we still use a separate assistant for drafting.

Problems it solves

Customer-facing writing quality became consistent without training anyone.

Useful, but I ignore half its advice

Used daily for 2+ years

For catching genuine errors it is excellent. For style it wants everything shorter and blander, and if you accept every suggestion your writing loses whatever made it yours. Treat it as a proofreader, not an editor.

Pros

Catches real mistakes reliably. Works in every tool I use.

Cons

Style suggestions homogenise voice. The AI writing is worse than the assistant I already pay for.

Security review took longer than the rollout

Used daily for 1–2 years

A tool that reads every text field in the browser is exactly the kind of thing our infosec team exists to question. Enterprise tier answered it — data residency, retention controls, SSO — but expect that conversation, and start it early.

Pros

Enterprise controls were sufficient once we looked properly. Adoption needed no training at all.

Cons

Broad text access is a legitimate concern that needs answering before rollout.
