Our verdict
The deciding difference is how pages are laid out. The Wix Editor lets elements sit anywhere on the page, with a separate mobile editor, while Squarespace's Fluid Engine places blocks on a grid with its own mobile layout. Wix sites and Squarespace 7.1 sites can't switch to another template. Both sell online and run paid member areas, but Wix includes bookings from Core, while Squarespace's scheduling tool, Acuity, is billed separately. Squarespace Basic costs $25 a month, or $19 billed yearly, and takes 2% of store sales; Core removes that fee for $39, or $29 billed yearly. Wix lists yearly prices only: Light, at $17 a month, can't take payments, Core at $29 can, and Business at $39 adds automated sales tax. Squarespace starts every site with a 14-day free trial, and Wix has a free plan with ads. Leaving is easier from Squarespace, which exports pages and a blog as WordPress XML. Choose Squarespace for a grid-based design and a full trial, and Wix for free-form layouts and built-in bookings.
