What is Bluehost?
Bluehost is a web hosting company founded in 2003 in the United States and part of Newfold Digital. It sells shared hosting in two groups, Standard and High Performance, and Bluehost Cloud, a managed cloud platform for WordPress sites. Its WordPress hosting page says WordPress.org has recommended Bluehost since 2005.
Shared plans differ mainly in how many websites they hold and how much storage they get. Starter covers 10 websites and 10 GB of NVMe storage, which Bluehost describes as ideal for about 40,000 visits a month. Business covers 50 websites and 50 GB, and eCommerce Essentials covers 100 websites and 100 GB and installs WooCommerce automatically, with product subscriptions, memberships and paid courses. The High Performance plans, Pro, Premium, Enhanced and Elite, each allow 100 websites with 100 to 250 GB of storage and more CPU. WordPress comes pre-installed with automatic updates, and every plan includes a domain for the first year, a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, a CDN and a migration tool. Bluehost Cloud comes in three sizes for up to 10, 25 or 50 sites and adds daily Jetpack backups, Git integration, one-click staging and an uptime SLA.
Shared plans are sold on terms from one month up to four years, and the longer terms carry an introductory price that renews at a higher rate. Cloud plans renew at the price they were bought at. Instead of a free trial, Bluehost offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Bluehost fits people putting a first WordPress site online, or a handful of them, who want the hosting, domain and SSL certificate from one company. Even Starter holds 10 websites, and a site that outgrows shared hosting can move up to Bluehost Cloud without a change of host. The cloud tier has the cleaner terms of the two: its renewal prices match its sign-up prices, and its SLA promises 100% uptime, crediting 5% of the monthly fee for every 30 minutes of downtime.
The entry plan is where the gaps show. Starter backs up weekly and offers 24/7 chat but no phone support, and the web application firewall and DDoS protection start on Business. Daily backups and Git integration are documented for the Cloud plans rather than the shared ones. Email isn't bundled: Professional Email comes as a one-month trial, then costs $19.99 per mailbox for the first year and $29.99 a year after that. And if you ask for a refund within the 30-day guarantee, Bluehost deducts the free domain at its regular price.
Shared prices depend on the term you prepay, so budget on the renewal. For a small business the plan to price is Business, which adds phone support and the firewall: $7.99 a month for the first 12 months, billed $95.88 upfront, then $15.99 a month on renewal. A 36-month term cuts the first-term rate to $6.99 and renews at $13.99, and paying month to month costs $20.99. Starter is $4.99 a month for the first 12 months, billed $59.88, and renews at $11.99. Domain privacy, free on Business for the first year, then costs $15 a year per domain. Cloud 10, for up to 10 sites, is $90 month to month or $75 a month on a 12-month term, and neither figure rises at renewal.
Choose Bluehost for a few WordPress sites under one bill, on Business or above. If daily backups and email should come with the cheapest plan, SiteGround includes both on every shared plan, though its StartUp plan hosts a single website and renews at $17.99 a month. Hostinger's Unlimited plan has daily backups, unlimited websites and free mailboxes for the first year, and renews at $16.99 a month.
