What is SiteGround?
SiteGround is a web hosting company founded in 2004 in Bulgaria. Its hosting runs on Google Cloud, and alongside shared and cloud hosting it sells a website builder, ecommerce hosting, an AI Studio and domain registration.
The shared plans are StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek. StartUp hosts one website with 10 GB of storage, while GrowBig and GoGeek host unlimited websites with 50 GB and 100 GB, and SiteGround describes traffic as unlimited on all three. Each plan includes free SSL, a CDN, daily backups, email, free site migrations, WP-CLI and SSH, and every site gets its own Site Tools panel for managing it and sharing access. SiteGround's experts can move an existing site, or a WordPress site can be brought over with the automatic migrator. GrowBig adds on-demand backups, staging and what SiteGround calls 30% faster PHP; GoGeek adds Git, private DNS, white-label access and priority support. Above the shared plans sit four cloud plans, from Jump Start with 4 CPU cores and 8 GB of memory to Super Power with 16 cores and 20 GB, each with a dedicated IP and daily backups.
Shared plans are sold with a promotional price for the first term, prepaid for 12 months, after which they renew at SiteGround's regular rate on a 1-, 12- or 24-month billing cycle. Cloud plans are billed monthly. There's no free trial, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies.
Our verdict on SiteGround
SiteGround suits small businesses and freelancers who want backups and email included from the cheapest plan up, without managing a server. Daily backups, email, a CDN, free SSL and free migrations come with StartUp, and the Site Tools panel is per site, so access can be shared one site at a time. GoGeek's white-label access and private DNS suit agencies that host client sites.
The weak point is the jump at renewal. StartUp's first 12 months work out to $3.99 a month, and the plan then renews at $17.99, more than four times as much. StartUp is also limited to a single website with 10 GB of storage, staging and on-demand backups don't arrive until GrowBig, and Git needs GoGeek. Outgrowing the shared plans means a big step, since the smallest cloud plan, Jump Start, costs $100 a month.
Anyone with a second site, or who wants a staging copy before changes go live, will need GrowBig. It costs $6.69 a month for the first 12 months, prepaid as $80.28, then renews at $29.99 a month on a 12-month cycle or $24.99 on a 24-month one, and month-to-month billing costs $34.99. A single site can stay on StartUp, which renews at $17.99 a month on a yearly cycle and $14.99 on two years. GoGeek renews at $44.99 a month. SiteGround says it runs different promotions through the year, so the first-year figure moves; the renewal rates are the ones to plan around.
Choose SiteGround for one to a few business sites where daily backups and email should be standard and the renewal fits the budget. Owners of many small sites will pay less at renewal with Hostinger's Unlimited plan, which has unlimited websites and daily backups for $16.99 a month. Developers who want a bigger server billed by the hour can run unlimited sites on a 2 GB DigitalOcean server at Cloudways for $28 a month.

Can you pay for SiteGround monthly?
Yes. SiteGround says you can pay monthly for all its hosting plans by changing the billing cycle in Renewal Settings. Monthly billing costs more per month than yearly: $24.99 for StartUp, $34.99 for GrowBig and $49.99 for GoGeek, against $17.99, $29.99 and $44.99 a month on a 12-month cycle. The cloud plans are billed monthly as standard, from $100 a month for Jump Start.
Does SiteGround include email and backups?
Yes, on every plan. StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek all include email, daily backups, free SSL, a CDN and free site migrations. On-demand backups, which save a copy whenever you ask for one, start on GrowBig along with staging, so a change can be tried on a copy of the site before it goes live. The cloud plans also include daily backups and a dedicated IP address.
How many websites can you host on SiteGround?
One on StartUp and as many as you like on GrowBig and GoGeek. StartUp is limited to 1 website with 10 GB of storage. GrowBig allows unlimited websites with 50 GB, and GoGeek unlimited websites with 100 GB, so storage becomes the practical ceiling. SiteGround describes traffic as unlimited on all three. The cloud plans, starting with 40 GB of SSD space on Jump Start, also allow unlimited websites.
Which is cheaper, SiteGround or Hostinger?
