Descript suits video that's carried by speech: podcasts, interviews, webinars, courses and talking-head clips. Because the transcript is the editing surface, cutting a recording becomes a matter of reading it and deleting what shouldn't stay, and the clean-up tools go after the usual problems of spoken recordings, from filler words and long pauses to background noise. One project can then produce clips, animated captions, captions translated into 61 languages and drafts of show notes or blog posts.

The limits are in the allowances. Media minutes count everything uploaded or recorded, including the full length of a Rooms session, and AI credits pay for Underlord, Studio Sound, filler-word removal, Green Screen, Eye Contact and AI speech. Neither rolls over, and Hobbyist can't buy top-ups, so a heavy month there means upgrading. Descript exports timelines to Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and Pro Tools, which suits a rough cut here and finishing elsewhere. Its terms also let Descript train its models on your content unless you opt out, although its help center says the models now in production use no user data.

Creator is the plan most working creators will need: $35 a month per editor, or $24 a month on annual billing, with 30 media hours, 800 AI credits, 4K export and access to top-ups. Hobbyist costs $24 a month, or $16 on annual billing, for one editor with 10 media hours, 400 credits and 1080p export. Business, at $65 a month or $50 on annual billing, adds 40 hours, 1,500 credits, Brand Studio and custom avatars. Top-ups cost $25 for 5 extra media hours or $35 for 350 AI credits, expiring 12 months after purchase. The Free plan's 60 minutes a month and watermarked 720p export are enough to try the editing model, not to publish from.

Choose Descript when most of what you publish is people talking and the same recording has to become clips, captions and written posts. For color grading, effects or footage-heavy projects, DaVinci Resolve's free version covers editing, color and audio in one program. Teams already working in Adobe's apps can get transcript-based editing in Premiere Pro, whose Text-Based Editing builds rough cuts from a transcript; its single-app plan costs $22.99 a month on a yearly commitment.
