Overview
What is Rork?
Rork is an AI app builder from Rork, Inc., a US company founded in 2024. You describe an app in plain English and Rork writes it as a native iPhone app in Swift with SwiftUI, a native Android app in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, or a web app in React. One project can hold both an iPhone and an Android app, as separate native codebases.
Design mode produces pictures of the screens before anything is built, Plan mode writes out the work without changing files, and Build mode turns the design into working code. iPhone apps run in a cloud iOS simulator in the browser and Android apps in a cloud emulator. Real-phone testing works through TestFlight, a USB install with Rork Companion for Windows or macOS, or an Android APK. Source code and runtime logs can be read on every plan, while editing code by hand needs a paid plan.
Rork Cloud provides a database and server-side functions, or a project can use Supabase or Firebase; sign-in with Apple or Google is built in. Rork builds and uploads store releases on its own machines, so publishing needs no Mac, Xcode or Android Studio, only your own developer accounts. Web apps publish to a rork.app address, and paid plans sync code both ways with GitHub. Billing is by monthly credits, roughly one per request, with iOS builds and simulator time charged on top. AI features inside the finished app draw on a separate pay-as-you-go Cloud credit balance.

Rork is built for one job: turning a phone-app idea into a native app without hiring an iOS or Android developer. Its output is Swift with SwiftUI on iPhone and Kotlin with Jetpack Compose on Android, the stacks Apple and professional Android teams use, so the result is a native app rather than a website in a shell, and a developer can later open the iPhone project in Xcode. Store submission is handled as well: Rork builds and uploads releases on its own servers, so no Mac is needed.
Credits are where it gets expensive. A credit is roughly one request, Pro includes 100 a month, and iOS builds and cloud simulator time are charged on top of the messages that start them, so testing an iPhone app eats into the same allowance as building it. When credits run out, Rork's billing FAQ offers two options: upgrade or wait for the monthly reset. Collaborators also spend the owner's credits. An app for both iPhone and Android is two separate native codebases, so shipping on both stores means building and testing two apps.
Rork Pro costs $20 a month for 100 credits with no daily cap and covers iPhone, Android and web apps. The next step is Rork Max, from $200 a month for 1,000 credits, which adds iPad, Apple Watch and Vision Pro apps, games, iOS widgets and priority chat support; larger Max tiers cost $500 a month for 2,500 credits, $900 for 5,000 and $1,800 for 10,000. There is nothing between $20 and $200, so a project that outgrows 100 credits a month faces a tenfold jump.
Choose Rork when the product is a phone app first and nobody on the team writes Swift or Kotlin, and use the free design mode to settle the screens before spending build credits. If the mobile app is one part of a larger service, Replit is worth comparing: it builds Expo and React Native apps alongside a backend in any language in the same project, though it cannot yet publish to Google Play. A team that already has an iOS developer gains less, since the main thing Rork replaces is native coding skill.

Is Rork free?
Partly. The free plan covers Design mode only: you get 5 design credits a day, up to 35 a month in major markets (5 elsewhere), plus private projects, so you can work out an app's screens before paying. How do Rork credits work?
A credit is roughly one request in which Rork designs, builds or edits your app, and Plan mode messages use the same build credits as any other. iOS builds and cloud simulator sessions rent real machines, so they are charged on top of the message that started them. Paid plans reset on the monthly anniversary of your first purchase, and when credits run out you upgrade or wait for the reset. Collaborators spend the project owner's credits. AI and backend features inside your published app use a separate, pay-as-you-go Cloud credit balance.
Does Rork build React Native apps?
No, not for new projects. Rork's documentation says you can no longer create Expo (React Native) projects: new iPhone apps are written in Swift, Android apps in Kotlin and web apps in React. Rork says it switched because, on its internal benchmarks, its agent wrote better Swift apps than React Native ones. Existing Expo projects keep working and can still be built, published and exported to GitHub, and Rork offers to rebuild them as native apps within the same project.
Can Rork publish apps to the App Store and Google Play?
Yes. Rork builds and uploads releases on its own machines, so you do not need a Mac, Xcode or Android Studio. For the App Store you need an Apple Developer membership in your name, and the app still goes through Apple's review. For Google Play, Rork builds and signs an Android App Bundle and uploads it to your internal testing track; new personal Google Play accounts must run a closed test before release. Web apps publish to a rork.app address, and custom domains can be connected.
Do you own the code Rork generates?
Yes. Rork's terms say you keep all rights to the content, applications and data you create with its services, and its code export FAQ says paid users own all generated code. Exporting needs a paid plan: you sign in with GitHub and use Rork's GitHub integration, which syncs both ways, so changes made outside Rork can come back in.
