Presenter video from a script, no camera

Key takeaways
from our research
Editing a script and re-rendering replaces an entire reshoot cycle
140+ languages turns multilingual video from a budget problem into a translation step
Avatars are licensed from paid actors, which satisfies most commercial-rights reviews
Still identifiably synthetic — internal audiences accept it, external ones notice
Our verdict
Synthesia solves one expensive problem completely: video that has to be updated often. A compliance module recorded with a real presenter costs a studio day to change a single sentence. In Synthesia you edit the script and re-render. For L&D and internal communications teams that alone justifies the subscription.
The 140-language support compounds it. Producing an onboarding course in twelve languages is a scheduling and budget problem that mostly does not happen; here it is a translation step. Reviewers in multinational organisations consistently name this as the feature that moved them from evaluating to buying, and the avatars are licensed from paid actors, which gives the commercial-rights position most enterprises need.
The limit is audience tolerance. Avatars have improved but remain identifiably synthetic — a slight stiffness around gesture and eye-line that viewers notice even when they cannot name it. Our reviewers report that internal audiences accept this readily and external marketing audiences do not, which is a useful rule of thumb. Per-minute pricing also adds up quickly at volume.
Our guidance: excellent for training, onboarding, product updates and internal comms, particularly multilingual. Not yet the right tool for brand-facing marketing video where a real presenter still reads better.

“Our compliance library stopped going stale”
Used weekly for 1–2 years
Forty modules that legally must reflect current policy. Previously a policy change meant either a studio day or shipping something out of date. Now it is a script edit and a re-render the same afternoon. That is the entire business case.

“Twelve languages we could never have filmed”
Used monthly for 6–12 months
Global onboarding in twelve languages was simply not in the budget with real presenters. This made it possible at all. Local teams report the translations need a native review pass, but the videos exist, which they previously did not.

“Right for internal, wrong for our campaigns”
Used monthly for 6–12 months
We tried it for a customer-facing product launch and the feedback was blunt — people spotted it immediately and it read as cheap. Moved it to internal comms where it works well and nobody minds. Know which side of that line you are on.
