Our verdict
The deciding difference is cost against the connection to Adobe's other apps. DaVinci Resolve's free version already includes editing, color grading, Fusion effects, Fairlight audio and multi-user collaboration on Mac, Windows and Linux, for 8-bit video up to 60 fps and Ultra HD. Studio, a one-time $295 purchase, adds 10-bit video up to 120 fps, higher resolutions, text-based editing and AI tools such as noise reduction and voice isolation. Premiere Pro is sold only by membership, with the single-app plan at $22.99 a month on a one-year commitment, and Creative Cloud Pro, at $69.99 a month, bundles it with more than 20 Creative Cloud apps. What the subscription buys is Dynamic Link, which shares assets with After Effects without rendering, along with Team Projects for shared timelines and Text-Based Editing. Choose Resolve for solo work or a team that grades and mixes in one program without a subscription; choose Premiere when After Effects or other Adobe apps are part of the pipeline.
