Our verdict
The deciding difference is research depth against price. Ahrefs is built around Site Explorer, which shows any domain's backlinks and organic and paid keywords, and its Site Audit can execute JavaScript. Lite costs $129 a month, or $1,290 a year, for one user with 1,000 credits and 750 tracked keywords, and Standard, at $249 a month, gives each user unlimited credits. Moz Pro costs less to start: Standard is $99 a month, or $79 a month for the first year on yearly billing, for three Campaigns that each track a site and three competitors with weekly rankings, crawls and on-page grades. Its limits are tighter. Rankings stop at the top 20, Standard allows 150 Keyword Explorer queries a month, and Moz's crawler doesn't handle JavaScript-heavy sites well. Choose Moz Pro to monitor a few sites weekly on a smaller budget, and Ahrefs when link and competitor research is daily work or your site relies on JavaScript.
