Framer’s proposition is that for marketing websites, the handoff itself is the waste — and it removes it. You design on a canvas that behaves like a design tool, and then you press publish and that is the live site, hosted, responsive and indexable.
For a startup marketing site, a landing page or an agency’s client work, this is a genuinely better workflow than designing in Figma and rebuilding in Webflow or React. The animation and interaction tooling is the best available without writing code, the CMS handles blogs and case studies properly, SEO controls are real rather than an afterthought, and page performance out of the box is strong. Free sites on a framer.website domain make it easy to evaluate; paid site plans start around $5 per month with higher tiers for CMS volume and traffic.
The scope is narrow and worth respecting. Framer is not an interface design tool — there is no developer handoff, and it is not where you would design an application. Complex, database-driven web apps are outside its remit. Pricing is per site rather than per seat, which is cheap for one marketing site and less obviously so across a portfolio. And you are committing to Framer as hosting as well as design tool, which is a real lock-in consideration.
Our guidance: choose Framer when the deliverable is a marketing website and the team is design-led. Keep Figma for product design. Choose Webflow instead if you need deeper CMS structure or more control over markup.

“Excellent for marketing sites, not for product”

We use it for the public site and Figma for the app. Trying to use Framer as a general design tool does not work — there is no handoff and it is not built for that. Within its lane it is superb.
