Best for feature-hungry teams consolidating multiple tools into one workspace
ClickUp is the maximalist option: more features per dollar than any competitor, spanning tasks, docs, whiteboards, time tracking and AI. The cost is a denser interface and a real learning curve; performance has improved markedly but still trails Linear.

Best for cross-functional companies coordinating campaigns, programs and approvals
Asana is the most complete general-purpose work management platform: strong views, forms, approvals, goals and portfolio reporting. It suits cross-functional organizations more than engineering teams, and its Advanced tier pricing draws frequent complaints.

Best for product and engineering teams that value speed over configurability
Linear is an opinionated, developer-first issue tracker and planning tool known for exceptional speed and design discipline. It deliberately omits general-purpose PM features (Gantt charts, time tracking) in favor of a focused sprint-and-roadmap workflow.

Best for agencies and small teams that want calm, client-friendly simplicity at a flat price
Basecamp is the calm outlier: six fixed tools per project (to-dos, messages, schedule, docs, chat, card table), free client access and a flat $299/month unlimited-user price. It omits Gantt charts, sprints and workload views on purpose.
