Pipedream

Integration for people who write code

  • Pipedream, Inc. · United States
  • Since 2019

Key takeaways

from our research

  1. Any step can be Node, Python, Go or Bash — no visual-builder ceiling

  2. Prebuilt components handle authentication so you only write the interesting part

  3. Credits bill on execution time as well as count, so slow APIs cost more

  4. Non-technical colleagues will not maintain what you build here

Our verdict

Updated Aug 25, 2026Fact-checked Aug 2, 2026

Pipedream is what you want if your honest reaction to a drag-and-drop builder is that typing would be faster. Every step can be code, the component library covers the boring authentication work, and a working integration between two APIs takes minutes rather than an afternoon of clicking.

The developer experience is the product. Package imports work, secrets management is built in, versioning is sane, and the local development story is far better than anything else here. For engineering teams who need to glue internal services together — the automations too specific for an integration library to ever cover — it removes most of the boilerplate without imposing a visual metaphor.

It is not a tool for the rest of the company, and the pricing model needs attention. Credits are consumed by execution time as well as count, so a slow API call costs more than a fast one, which is logical and still catches people out. The visual builder exists but is clearly secondary, and a non-technical colleague will not maintain what you build.

Our guidance: excellent as a developer's integration platform alongside a no-code tool for the business. As the only automation platform in a mixed-skill company, it strands everyone who does not write code.

Faster than writing the Lambda

Used weekly for 1–2 years

For internal glue — take a webhook, enrich it, write to Postgres, notify Slack — this is quicker than standing up a function and its deployment pipeline. Secrets and versioning are handled, so there is genuinely nothing to set up.

Great for me, useless for the ops team

Used weekly for 6–12 months

I built six integrations in an afternoon. Then ops asked to change a Slack channel in one and could not, so it came back to me. We now run Zapier for anything the business owns and Pipedream for engineering-only workflows.
