What is Pipedream?
Pipedream has closed its Workflows product to new customers. Its documentation says Workflows is in maintenance mode, with no new signups, subscriptions or features. Existing workflows keep running until March 31, 2027, when remaining subscriptions are cancelled with a prorated refund, and all Workflows data, credentials and OAuth tokens included, is deleted by April 30, 2027.
What Pipedream, Inc. sells now is Connect, which it calls the integration layer for AI agents. A developer adds Connect to an app or agent, and each of that app's users authorizes their own accounts through Connect Link or the developer's own screens. Pipedream stores and refreshes those credentials, and the agent then calls one of more than 10,000 prebuilt tools across 3,000+ APIs, sends a request to one of those APIs through Connect's proxy, or works through MCP, with a fresh token added to each request. Deployed triggers send events from connected apps to the developer's webhook URL, and each project has separate development and production environments.
Connect is used through a TypeScript SDK, an API and a remote MCP server, and Pipedream runs on AWS in the US. It provides a SOC 2 Type 2 report on request, and HIPAA support comes with the Business plan. Plans are priced by external users, meaning each person who connects at least one account, and by credits: one credit per 30 seconds of compute for each action run, MCP tool call, proxy request or trigger event. The Free plan covers development, and serving real users in production takes a paid plan.

Pipedream is no longer an option for new buyers of workflow automation. Workflows accepts no new signups or subscriptions, existing workflows stop on March 31, 2027, and their data, stored credentials and OAuth tokens included, is deleted by April 30, 2027. Current customers should start moving well before the deadline. The export tool saves each workflow's structure as JSON one project at a time, every workflow still has to be rebuilt on another platform, and annual subscribers who want to leave early have to contact support.
Connect is a different product for a different buyer: a developer building an AI agent or SaaS app whose users connect their own accounts in tools such as Stripe or Slack. Pipedream keeps those credentials encrypted at rest, scoped per project and never exposed to the developer's app, and adds a fresh token to each request. Development is free with every feature, so the whole integration can be built before paying, though a development project allows 10 external users at most.
Production starts on Startup, at $99 a month billed yearly or $150 billed monthly, with 100 external users and 10,000 credits a month. An external user is anyone who connects at least one account, counted once however many apps they link, and each one past 100 adds $2 a month. A credit covers 30 seconds of compute for an action run, MCP tool call, proxy request or trigger event; past 10,000, each costs $0.012, with lower rates at volume. SSO, SCIM, HIPAA and static egress IPs need Business, sold on an annual contract at a quoted price, and the terms say payments are non-refundable unless stated otherwise.
For workflow automation, look elsewhere. Developers who picked Pipedream for its code steps will find the nearest match in n8n, whose Code node runs JavaScript or Python, whose pricing counts a whole run as one execution, and whose Community Edition can be self-hosted with no license fee. Teams that mainly connect everyday apps should look at Zapier, which says it integrates more than 9,000 apps; Professional costs $19.99 a month billed yearly for 750 tasks. Choose Pipedream Connect only when you're building a product whose users connect their own accounts.

Is Pipedream shutting down?
Its Workflows product is. Pipedream's docs say Workflows and String shut down on March 31, 2027, and Workflows no longer accepts signups or subscriptions or gets new features. Existing workflows run normally until then, remaining subscriptions are cancelled that day with a prorated refund, and all Workflows data, including credentials and OAuth tokens, is deleted by April 30, 2027. Pipedream Connect, the integration product for AI agents and apps, isn't affected; the company says it remains fully supported and actively developed.
How do you export workflows from Pipedream?
Use the export tool in Pipedream, which downloads the structure of your workflows as JSON, one project at a time, in a ZIP file with one JSON file per workflow. Plan the export well before March 31, 2027, when Workflows shuts down, since the data is deleted by April 30, 2027. Monthly subscribers can cancel on their own before then, while annual subscribers should contact Pipedream's support team.
Is Pipedream free?
Pipedream Connect has a free plan for development. It includes every feature, full API, SDK and MCP access, more than 3,000 connectors and unlimited team members, but a project in development allows at most 10 external users, and serving real users in production needs Startup, at $99 a month billed yearly or $150 billed monthly. Credits measure Connect usage. Running an action, calling a tool through MCP, sending a request through the Connect proxy and emitting an event from a deployed trigger each use 1 credit per 30 seconds of compute, while listing apps, accounts and triggers and configuring components use none. Startup includes 10,000 credits a month; each credit after that costs $0.012, and the rate drops at higher volume. Users are billed separately: 100 are included, then $2 per user a month.
What can replace Pipedream Workflows?
For code-heavy automation, n8n is the nearest match: its Code node runs JavaScript or Python, a whole workflow run counts as one execution, and the Community Edition can be self-hosted with no license fee. For connecting everyday apps without code, Zapier says it integrates more than 9,000 apps, and Make offers a visual canvas from $9 a month billed yearly for 5,000 credits.
